Voting
I'm a fan.
Hey now, welcome to OPE!, the newsletter by writer and music journalist Brady Gerber (me). Once a week, I talk about one specific “thing.” All typos are intentional.
Well, hello there. How are you?
Stepping in on a Tuesday after two back-to-back weeks of vacation, since I’ll also be out this Friday.
This is rare for me to travel this much consistently away from my computer; I’m not against it.
I figured to send out a post now since I just got back from voting, which doubled as a lovely morning walk around my LA neighborhood, which is beautiful and calm in these early hours. It was nice to catch up on some podcasts—I’m finally on board with The Rest is History after listening to their appearance on Conan O’Brien’s podcast. It was also nice to walk in silence and enjoy the sounds of a sleepy city slowly coming alive.
I’m trying not to be so stingy with my weekly posts. Even if I can’t post on a Friday, I can be loose and goose with the days I publish.
I think that’s the first time I’ve ever written the phrase “loose and goose.” Weird.
I got advice from a famous newsletter writer once that you should always stick to your specific deadline, no matter what is happening in your life. That person is no longer running a newsletter. Anyway.
If your state had an election today, I hope you have a chance to vote, or that you already mailed in your vote.
I would feel silly telling you who to vote for. Let the in-laws do that.
This week’s link worth clicking:
I know I’ve “won” life when I’m famous enough to coin a two-word sentence as a handy response to everything. I’m mixed on Joan Didion, but I’m jealous of Didion’s own two-word sentence. Something to work towards.
And that’s it.
See you next time.
With love and all the other good things,
-b
Original OPE! logo by Claire Kuang. Words and cartoons by yours truly. I also have a podcast where I’m reading James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake one sentence at a time, and a blog analyzing each week’s Billboard Hot 100 updates. Follow me on X, Bluesky, or Threads for song recommendations; I find all three silly. Follow me on Instagram for memes. All my views are my own and don’t reflect my clients and associated companies. Want to yell at me or tell me that I’m great? Here’s my website.
If you’re already a paying subscriber, share OPE! with one of your friends. Sharing is caring—and it keeps OPE! going.
